At the heart of Eastern cuisine is the ability to distinguish the subtle tastes of the food and to lighten the density of the sauces and condiments. These tendencies have been taken somewhat from the Japanese cuisine which has become profoundly popular.
Japanese food is very healthy. Its success comes from its low fat and low cholesterol content. Because people nowadays are concerned about their health and physical appearance, this healthy type of food is high in nutritional value because of its three basic food groups: animal protein, vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals, and the carbohydrates found in the rice. In addition, the low fat content used in preparation of the food helps to preserve the healthy attributes of each ingredient. So it can be said that from a nutritional point of view, each dish is perfectly balanced.
The king of this popular Japanese cuisine which has become a "fever" or a fad is sushi. Sushi is a delight to the eyes and an exquisite culinary experience to the taste buds.
Sushi is an elaborate offering with its variety of fish and other very fresh seafood placed over rice and algae. On the other hand, the tempura dishes offered combine seafood and vegetables served hot and crunchy.
The third most popular dish is the Teppanyaki which comes from the spicy cuisine and Teriyaki which is prepared with beef, chicken, shrimp, salmon or a mixture of the same. These are served on a skillet with vegetables and a bed of rice.
The culinary art experts agree that Japanese food is based on five flavors, five colors and five methods of preparation. The five flavors are:
sweet, sour, spicy, salty and tart. The five colors are white, yellow, red, green and black. The five preparation methods are raw, cooked, fried, grilled and steamed.
Japanese cuisine is designed with the "law of five" to preserve the natural flavor of the food. Another element of great importance without a doubt is the time or the seasons of the year which supposes the importance of the presentation of the dishes, its color, its consistency and the partakers of the dish to all be in harmony with the time or season of the year.
